Tripawd Day 3

I work 6 hours on Sundays, which means 8 hours away from home.  Let me tell you, I have never been so happy to go to work!  The fireworks were horrible last night and the only way to keep Sheba quite was to hang out with her in my room, which is not set up for her aside from a bed.  In grandma’s room her bed is enclosed in a pen.  In my room its just pushed into a corner.  Fortunately, once she got comfortable she didn’t get up again except to readjust a few times.  So I got to sleep in my own bed until 3 am meds, then we moved back to grandma’s room for some more solid zzz’s.  Not much else to report, two more weeks of sleep deprivation to go!

5/23/16 Sheba went in for TPLO of the right leg (left had been done year prior). Initial tests were inconclusive suggesting fungal or cancer. 6/22/16 fine needle aspirate in conjunction with review from specialist resulted in diagnosis of osteomyelitis of fungal origin. Organism could not be ID'd. Amputation 6/30/16, bone sent to pathology for identification and susceptibility. Final diagnosis: systemic Aspergilosis Current treatment: Itraconazole and terbinafine

  1. Yep, physically and emotionally exhausted, sleep deprived, living on junk food and could care less about mundane things like combing your hair…..all signs of a “normal” recovery!! 🙂

It’s a pretty intense time but, thankfully, recovery doesn’t last forever!

    You’re doing great!

    Hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

  2. OMD, our GSDs HATE fireworks and our neighborhood literally sounds like a war zone on the 4th, complete with lots of automatic weapons fire. Poor Sheba, to have to deal with that as well as the drugs and the weirdness of having lost her leg. It sounds like she and you are doing well though and before you know it recovery will be a distant memory.

    xoxo from the bunker,
    Codie Rae and the OP

    1. ugh, tell me about it! is OPD good at responding to your neighborhood? SJPD is hit or miss, its not uncommon for a shooting to happen and the cops not show up for a full 30 minutes. East San Jose is only a 10 minute drive from downtown and I know there are at least 3 patrol units within 5 minutes. weenies! last weekend there was a guy stabbed on our neighbor’s porch. the cops asked why he went to their porch, not ours? Um, ya know those two shepherds staring at you through the window and the beagle that wont shut up? Yeah, no one in our neighborhood wants to mess with them either, duh! Its surprisingly quiet for 6:30…calm before the storm?

      1. Its 9:51–how are things there now? I hope its not too bad for Sheba’s sake (and your other dogs). We are at almost 1.5 hours of pure insanity and no end in sight. A little while ago I had 2 GSDs growling at each other and trying to fit under my relatively small desk (along with my legs, which were already there)! Playing loud music drowns out the worst of it but we will be up for awhile yet. Hahahahahahahahaha! ESJ sounds just like EOaktown. OPD runs and hides on the 4th and new years. Weiners indeed! We gave up calling years ago. Anyway the worst “should” be over in another hour but they will keep going all night, especially the big bombs. Time to go sit on the couch with Austin, who barks at every explosion! Keep yer heads down!

        1. Fireworks didn’t stop til 2am ish. Sheba and buster both tried to get under my twin bed. Sheba ended up ON my bed and stayed there for hours. We’re still trying to sleep it off. I’m skipping class so I’m not a TOTAL bitch at work tonight.
